The cat-flap of open source

I have been coding for a long time. My interest began as a child, I’ve been using computers since I was 3 years old and my mom is a software engineer. Later, I got into civil engineering and coded my way to graduation and now I’m doing artistic stuff that uses code in one way…

Layers of story and sound

The piece of music I chose for this class is Digital Love by Daft Punk. This is easily one of my favorite songs and I find myself coming back to it constantly, not only because of the feelings it evokes, but also because of its complexity and structure. This song has many instruments and layers…

recipes for morning anxieties

For my final project, I combined my exploration of storytelling in media with my search for dealing with my anxieties and existential questions. I did so by looking for questions within movie scripts or books and the answers they have for these in the same media. By applying the answers as ingredients in a template…

Rhythmic skin

Rhythmic skin is a wearable device for one-person musical performances. Aiming to solve the issue of auditive overload and relieve pressure from the performer, this device sends haptic messages to the back of the user, transmitting only key information about the computerized part of the performance. Moreover, the rhythmic driver can be added-on any existing…

Diving in infinite immersive information

Why so many stories are just boring? Is it because the subject is meaningless or the storyteller untalented? Or is it because the storyteller doesn’t have the medium in which they can do it? The large number of new technologies emerging year to year give us exciting possibilities to express ourselves and tell the stories…

Rhythm on my (synthetic) skin

Being a one-person band is (very) fun, and also anxiety inducing. There are many things to keep track of, specially if you have many layers/instruments playing with you (from the computer). It’s not only about how it sounds, we do have that feedback, but if things are working and how they are working is something…

users wanna use

A platform for users to freely make 3D content and have more expressive tools is amazing, but… if they cannot interact with the scene, it’s not that useful. Thus, this week I focused on creating some user tools on the website, such as the possibility to change user, scene and get the coordinates of an…

(re)Creating 3d spaces

What are the advantages of working in 3D? What can we get out of it and what does it mean for human perception? Actually, a lot. The world that surrounds us is three-dimensional. That’s how we understand the world, how we traverse it. So, naturally having a 3D environment is the best way for us…

“light” accessory

On your wrist, easy on – easy light. A bracelet that can illuminate a keyhole or show how cool your dance moves are. And also my first soft circuit assignment for this class.

New Storytelling Platforms

Starting the task of creating an open cinematic creation tool, where you can manipulate the elements on a scene and everything gets saved and loaded online, I decided to go ahead and use three.js. It is a package I’m very comfortable with, so step was not that much of a stretch.
